Craftsman Kitchen

The clients loved the location of their house and property in Durham, but their existing kitchen and dining area did not live up their taste in furniture or design.  DM|A opened up the kitchen, dining, and family rooms, then reinvented the kitchen, pantry and dining room spaces and cabinets to work together in a craftsman style that fit the owners taste.  Long Cove Builders provided a seamless construction between the spaces, and the project is tied together beautifully with the craftsmanship of the cabinetry by Fiddlehead Designs. mahoney-kitchen-news

PBA in Portland

Our friends at Bayside Bowl recently announced that the Professional Bowlers Association will host an event in February 2015 in Portland.  The PBA was impressed by the venues they toured in the Portland area, a couple of which DM|A designed. Although not finalized, there has already been press about an event coming to Portland.  Likely, finals would be held at Bayside Bowl and qualifying and pro/am rounds to be held at Spare Time in Portland, Yankee Lanes in Brunswick, or Easy Day in South Portland. bayside-bowl

Views from the Job Site

While the construction of the main house at the Ledges in Harpswell will continue into the summer, the guest house/  studio will be occupied this spring.  The porch was rebuilt, and the interior, which was once a work room and garage, will become a studio/ kitchenette/ bedroom.  Cathedral ceilings are painted tongue and groove poplar and the new bay window frames stunning views of the water.  Construction by Rideout and Turner. More Views from the Job Site

The Maine Retreat, now named Eyrie, is coming along nicely.  The windows are in with a few comments from the carpenters about the heftiness of the large triple glazed Intus windows supplied by Maine Green Building Supply.  Half of the double wall is insulated, and the soffits have been completed in cedar.  The siding is being installed while we wait for the basement slab to be poured.  Construction by Bachman Construction. Brunswick Downtown Association

The Brunswick Downtown Association recently closed their application process to fund a Facade Improvement Grant Program.  This $250,000 multi-year grant program will help fund improvements to the Brunswick downtown for approved projects by reimbursing up to 50% of the cost of improvements ($10,000 max). David is part of the committee reviewing and approving grants for 15 projects submitted this year.  These funds will help improve the Brunswick downtown and promote economic development. IMG_5171

Engagement

DM|A is excited to announce that our associate, Alex Rogers, recently got engaged.  The groom-to-be, Dane Hanson, is a 2005 graduate of Livermore Falls High School.  He currently works as an electrical designer for RFS Engineering in Laconia, NH while finishing his engineering degree.  He also serves as a specialist in the Maine Army National Guard.  The two are planning a September wedding.  Pictured are Dane and Alex at Cathy’s birthday party last year. 13854_4753442279283_1862389685_n

On the Drawing Board

While the Family Retreat is being constructed by Oceanside Builders, DM|A worked on color schemes of the cottage.  The owners had some particular colors in mind for siding, trim and the front door, but they were interested in seeing how everything looked together in rendering.  The existing cottage had some unique elements, so DM|A maintained the essence of the cottage and added a few eclectic elements like multiple siding, different roofing materials, and various additions to break up patterns and shadows approach
