December 2014 (No. 29)

Welcome to our newsletter. Once a month we will update you with news about David Matero Architecture and our community. We welcome your comments, questions and feedback.

Family Cottage

A small cottage that had been in the family for generations in West Bath was in need of an upgrade, inside and out. DMA was tasked with maintaining the essence of the cottage while upgrading and updating the cottage with modern amenities, insulation, and additional space. The owners were interested in an eclectic response to the additions with texture and color changes to the facade materials. Construction by Oceanside Builders, LLC. Family Cottage

Shades and Shadows

Maine Home + Design recently featured DMA in their Design Theory article. MH+D collaborates with AIA Maine and presents a design concept each month from an architect’s point of view. One of the sketches presented was from a trip we took to Norway in 1998. It was very interesting to see how Norwegians manage light and color, especially considering our climate here in Maine is not all that different. The article is not on their website yet so feel free to pick up a magazine at your local market.

Man of La Mancha

The NERTC’s production of Man of La Mancha was a great success playing in front an enthusiastic crowd earlier this month. A musical play about the adventures of Don Quixote and his faithful squire, Sancho, Cathy played the part of the Barber. Cathy has been cast in a couple of upcoming shows, look for a nice and naughty evening of entertainment on Dec 12 and 13 at Winter Street Center for a Twisted Christmas by Studio Theater of Bath. In February, Cathy will be in Telemachas Clay, an inventive play written in Yale in the 1960’s at the Chocolate Church in Bath. lamancha

Views from the Job Site

Just in time for Thanksgiving, Raising the Ranch was ready for the holiday festivities in Freeport. A new entry and mud room creates a new front door for the house and a family room/play room gives some much needed space for the grandchildren. An added bonus is a new screen porch facing wonderful views of Maquoit Bay. Construction by Warren Construction Group. king

Foreign Exchange

We recently welcomed Carlo to our family in Bath. Carlo is an exchange student from Italy with the program CCI Greenheart. Carlo enjoys rowing at home, and is involved in cross country and swimming here in Maine. We are most excited that Carlo likes to cook, and has made some great dinners for us at home. David and Oskar introduced Carlo to American soccer this weekend to cheer on the New England Revolution to their Eastern Conference championship win over the New York Red Bulls. Yes, David has booked tickets to Los Angeles for Sunday’s MLS Cup! revs

Festival of Trees

DM/A is again sponsoring a tree during the Festival of Trees at the Maine Maritime Museum December 9 and 10. Presented by the Bath Area Family YMCA, students from the CCI Greenheart foreign exchange program will be decorating our sponsored tree. festival

Thanks, Doc!

David has fully recovered from his recent foot surgery that involved removing a bone chip/spur from his heal. David compliments the work of Dr. Brian MacDonald from Foot and Ankle Associates in Brunswick helping him get back to playing soccer. David was convinced to go shopping during rehab with the promise of being able to ride the shopping cart. shopping

On the Drawing Board

DM|A is working on major upgrades to the main living spaces in this wonderful summer cottage in West Bath. A new entry porch and opening the house to quiet views of the cove (while still maintaining a focus to the expansive views to the south) are the major improvements to the exterior. newsletter
