Merry Christmas and Happy New Year

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from David Matero Architecture.  We have enjoyed sharing our work this past year with our readers, and appreciate the feedback we have received.  As we look forward to a new year at DM|A we hope you enjoy our holiday card and a clarification…the Maine Retreat, as pictured, is currently under construction, and our rendering is what it could look like during the holiday season and is not an actual photograph.  The wonders of our rendering programs! 2013-xmas-rendering

Southern Maine Motors

A major renovation was recently completed at Southern Maine Motors on Route One in Saco. A Chrysler, Dodge, and Jeep dealership and service center, DM|A provided design and permitting service to completely update this tired building.  New windows (exterior and interior storefront) and lighting, along with a much cleaner and contemporary aesthetic, greets the car shopper now.  The owner updated the exterior as well for a complete facelift. so-maine-motors-1

Main Street Bath – Design Chair

David has been on the Board of Directors for Main Street Bath for two years.  Starting the first of the year, David will chair the Design Committee, one of four major committees in the organization.  Some of the items David will be focusing on include a downtown playground, upgraded lighting in the archway, downtown flowers, and planning for the 2015 Bath Gala which is sure to be the summer party of the year.  Pictured is David awarding SPI the Design Committee’s “Spirit of Bath” Award for their stewardship of the Winter Street Center during the MSB Annual Dinner. Views from the Job Site – Family Retreat

The Family Retreat in West Bath has begun demolition of selected areas, so that a new addition (and interior renovation) can be constructed by Oceanside Builders.  Because this summer cottage has been in the family for generations, it is important for DM|A to maintain the essence of the cottage while updating and modernizing both the interior and exterior.  DM|A received planning board approval as this project was within the shoreland zone.  The cottage is scheduled to be ready for it’s occupants this summer. Lean Too – Freeport

Our second Lean Too was recently completed and became the first house constructed at the Kelsey Brook subdevelopment in Freeport.  It was interesting working on a house very similar to our Lean Too Brunswick house as the owners added their personal touches and come up with a very different aesthetic on the interior to make this their home.  This photo was taken just before snow, we hope to get back soon to take additional photos.  Construction by Senecal Construction Services. Office Party

Our Christmas party at DM|A was an evening out in Portland with the entire firm (David, Cathy and Alex) and Dane.  Enjoying a delicious dinner and discussing our past year and future plans.  Here’s to 2014.  Cheers! IMG_4764

On the Drawing Board – The Ledges

After an extensive pricing phase, the Ledges in Harspwell is scheduled to begin selective demolition and then construction on an ocean-front property with beautiful views.  To reduce cost, about 650 sf of interior space will become exterior covered porches or screened porches.  The studio/guest house will be completed before the summer so the owners and live in that while the main house is worked on.  DM|A is working very closely with the owners and Rideout and Turner. proposed-elevation
