Welcome to our newsletter. Once a month we will update you with news about David Matero Architecture and our community. We welcome your comments, questions and feedback.

Easy Day

South Portland’s newest restaurant, bar and 10 lane, 10-pin bowling alley just opened on Broadway. DM|A worked very closely with the owner to completely renovate an existing Butler metal building. Seating for over 200 people and a full bar provides flexible seating for private functions, large gatherings, and intimate seating with stunning views of the Portland skyline. Jeanne Handy Designs provided interior design. The grand opening is scheduled for March 12. We visited Easy Day recently to celebrate David’s mother’s birthday during their soft opening and had a great time. easyday

The Maine Home, Remodeling & Garden Show

The DM|A team enjoyed a weekend at the newly renovated Cumberland County Civic Center, exhibiting and talking about our work to the attendees of the Maine Home, Remodeling & Garden Show. We met many people, and hope to continue our discussion with some of them. Easily, the major item of discussion was energy efficient construction. We were able to discuss some of our recent net-zero and near net-zero projects. IMG_4974

Houzz Customer Satisfaction

DM|A recently received a Best of Houzz 2014 award in Customer Satisfaction for the second year in a row. Customer Satisfaction honors are determined by a variety of factors, including the number and quality of client reviews a professional received in 2013. Over 16 million users are on Houzz each month, and they have saved over 230 million professional images of home interiors and exteriors to their personal ideabooks via the Houzz site. houzz

Studio Theater of Bath

To warm up recently, we spent an evening at the Chocolate Church for the Cabin Fevah Relievah, an evening of comedy, song, dance, drama, and improv. The highlight of the evening was when many of the cast of the upcoming Studio Theater of Bath presentation of Hair, the American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, took the stage. Among the tribe will be one of our own at DM|A. Cathy will be playing the part of Jeanie on April 18th at 7:30 PM and April 19th at 2 pm and 7:30 PM. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for students and seniors and will be held at the Orion Performing Arts Center in Topsham. cabin

Views from the Job Site

Sometimes Maine in the winter feels like…Maine in the winter. This year caught many of us off guard. One of our projects in West Bath got off to a very difficult start, in fact, it was delayed by many weeks due to the weather. It is onward now, though, as the concrete has been poured and framing will start this week. Formerly a family camp, we are looking forward to this renovation / addition as it starts taking shape. Northeast Sustainable Energy Association

David will be attending the upcoming NESEA Building Energy conference for two days this week in Boston. Building Energy 14 is the most established, most cross-disciplinary renewable energy and high-performance building conference and trade show in the Northeast. The first day is a full day workshop, The Science and Implementation of High-Performance Residential Assemblies. The second day includes 3 different workshops and walking the exhibit floor learning about energy efficient products. index

So You Think You Know Bath / Blarney Ball

An event that defines what it’s like living in Bath, SYTYKB returns for it’s 8th year on Friday March 21 from 6 to 9pm at the Winter Street Center. Nine teams of three people compete in multiple rounds answering questions on Bath subjects such as people, events, buildings, ships, sports, and other historical events. A member of the Bath Historical Society’s champion team for the past two years, Cathy has retired from competition and is now on the committee coming up with the questions; David runs the spotlight. Another event at WSC is the 3rd annual Blarney Ball on Saturday March 15 from 7 to 10pm. The Big Chips trio will lead the way for dancing on the new dance floor. On the Drawing Board

On the drawing board is an addition to a very distinctive glass house with wonderful views of the Kennebec River in North Bath. The addition will house a guest room, master bedroom suite and an office loft, and is designed to tie into the existing architecture. The project is part of a unique complex that includes the nearby Maine Retreat which is currently under construction. DM|A is very close to presenting final pricing drawings for Bachman Construction.
